The Law Society of British Columbia’s Cloud-Computing Checklist

Canadian Legal and Cloud ComputingLaw firms today in Canada, and all over the world, are taking advantage of cloud computing to increase efficiencies for document management, workflow improvement, data security, and file storage.  Using the cloud also provides cost-effective solutions, eliminating the need to purchase and maintain hardware and software, and saves massive amounts of paper.

When using cloud services, law firms must consider their clients’ data will be in the hands of third parties.  This raises concerns regarding privacy, regulatory compliance and risk management. Plus, cloud computing is still relatively new to lawyers and law practices. Because of this the Law Society of British Columbia has prepared a due-diligence checklist for lawyers to help them with any concerns.  Their hope is that the Checklist will allow lawyers to look at cloud services from all sides and help them get to know the cloud better.
